How to Compare Tree Service Quotes in Rome, GA
Price is one line on a quote. The other lines decide whether the job goes smoothly. Compare these five.

The quick answer
- Get more than one written estimate. NC State Extension says an arborist’s skill, reputation and professionalism may matter more than a low bid.
- Compare scope, not just price. Two quotes for the same price can cover different work.
- Check insurance. Ask for proof, and verify it.
- Get it in writing. Purdue Extension: “get it in writing.”
- Be wary of door-to-door offers, especially after storms.

What Georgia does and does not require
Georgia has no specific licensing or registration requirement for tree care providers, according to a House committee reported by the Georgia Recorder in December 2024. The same report says there are no state standards for training, equipment use or insurance. The committee recommended pursuing a license program. Check whether that has changed. As of October 2026, we found no Georgia tree-care licensing law passed since that report.
So the checks fall to you:
- Ask if the arborists on staff hold ISA certification (Purdue Extension).
- Ask for local references and look at past work (NC State, Purdue).
- Do not pay in advance or accept a rushed bargain offer (NC State).
Red flags
- No written quote.
- A price far below every other bid.
- Nobody will show proof of insurance.
- Door-to-door solicitors with no ID, uniform or vehicle marking (NC State).
- Pressure to sign today.
- After a storm: Georgia’s Insurance Commissioner says not to sign any contractor document until you have spoken to your insurer directly.

FAQ
How many quotes should I get for tree removal?
More than one, if time allows. NC State Extension advises getting estimates from more than one arborist.
Should I pick the lowest bid?
Not automatically. Purdue Extension says not to always select the lowest bid, and NC State says skill and reputation can matter more than a low price.
Does Georgia license tree services?
A House committee reported in December 2024 that Georgia has no specific licensing or registration requirements for tree care providers. Check for any change since.
Should I pay up front?
NC State Extension says never to pay in advance.
What if a crew knocks on my door after a storm?
Be wary if they have no ID, uniform or vehicle marking. Get a written quote and check insurance first.
